The Freak Family

"The Freak" also known as McLofts 12 3650 was born in the spring of 2012.  I was selecting sqeakers for the AU Convention and I grabbed this blue check baby from a first time mating.  When I touched her, I said to my brother, “This one is a Freak”.  I handle a million pigeons a year and can still remember grabbing that baby many years ago.  

The Freak went on to score in both training races winning 4th at 175miles and then 6th at 225miles and then in a very tough AU Convention Race she was 22 minutes ahead clocking in after 4pm.  ‘The Freak’ was sold at auction in 2012 to my friend Jorge Torres.

She immediately bred top combine pigeons, champion birds and One Loft Stars.  The Freak’s son bred 1st Coast to Coast against 2200 pigeons winning $30,000.00. The few young that Jorge let out to his friends also bred top performance pigeons and big winners.  

In 2015 Jorge offered me the opportunity to buy the Freak back.  I jumped and she came home at McLaughlin Lofts.  It was so much fun to see such a high quality pigeon come out of the shipping box.   

The first year we concentrated on breeding for stock and selling a few.  Suddenly the results started to pile in with both children and grandchildren hitting around the country.  This has continued yearly.  A few highlights:  Son Bred Equal 1st Salem Special 400 miles 2019 on a very tough day, Daughter bred 1st Boston Concourse 2019, double grandchild 1st Concourse California 2019.  Daughter bred 6th IF Convention 2019, Daughter bred 16th IF Convention on a very tough day 2018.  Direct daughter was a Double Car Race Prize Winner Derby Arona 2019.  Direct daughter 1st River Valley Roundup 351 miles 2020.  Direct Daughter won 1st New England Derby 125 miles 2020, another daughter won 21st Big Andy 500 mile 2020.  

The Freak pigeons are both tough and fast.  We tried to split The Freak young between sales and sending a few out to one loft races.  The few that went to the races usually scored at the top.  There are now many generations of winners from this bloodline.

The Freak comes from a long line of superstars.  Her grandmother known affectionately as ‘The Dark Hen’ was a tremendous racer at the long distance.  The Dark Hen was bred from the best of Maurice Casaert onto a Van Reet x Van Loon hen. The Dark Hen is also the grand dam to 1st Hoosier Classic Million Dollar Race 2018.

The sire of The Freak is a direct  from The Dark Hen.  This son McLofts 10 2982 known as ‘Sword’ is an exceptional pigeon. Sword bred a winner and top racer the first year breeding.  Year two gold was struck when Sword  was bred to McLofts 10 2503 a Van Reet hen from our amazing power couple 350 and 985. 2503 known as ‘National News’ is a granddaughter of ‘Good News’ one of the greatest major winning Van Reet pigeons ever to race in the United Kingdom.    

We included some photos and pedigrees of the Freak bloodline.  These are pigeons that have been winning in major competition for generations before The Freak was born and will continue for many generations to come.

If you look way back in the pedigree you can find the very best of the Maurice Casaert pigeons, some of our best Van Reet pigeons, Van Loon from our Super breeder cock The Fog that we imported in 1999 after he had multiple across the English Channel victories.  Demi who was maybe the best Casaert hen ever etc.
